LEAPING AHEAD! Innovation, Implementation & Sustainability – One School’s Journey

Is it possible for an Intermediate school to offer something measurably different for our gifted learners? Is it possible to give Intermediate school students an enriched and accelerated curriculum? Is it possible to meet the social and emotional needs of gifted students within the intermediate context? This presentation is the story of how Somerville Intermediate School in Auckland set out to answer these questions. Four years later, the LEAP CENTRE provides a home for the variety of programmes offered to diverse learners. One of these programmes, Channel 50, features in an article in the Tall Poppies magazine (Vol 32 No. 3, Nov 2007). Come and be inspired by the journey and hear about the possibilities of combining a variety of approaches to develop a programme that is stimulating, inspirational comprehensive and sustainable.
