CONFERENCE ABSTRACTSPresenters : Anna Meuli & Sue BarriballMATTERS OF THE HEART: : Changing Attitudes and Establishing Practices to Support the Social and Emotional Needs of Gifted Students. The Gifted Kids Programme supports the holistic development of gifted students, considering both their cognitive and affective needs. This workshop will elaborate on the support GKP offers aimed at the social and emotional well-being of gifted students through its own affective curriculum and professional development offerings to its contributing schools. Ways in which teachers are supported in better understanding the well-being of their gifted students, meeting their affective needs, and developing practices for assessing, reflecting, and reporting on affective development will be shared, as will the structure, strategies and experiences from the affective component of GKP’s curriculum. Sue and Anna shared their work at the 25th SENG (Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted)Conference in Salt Lake City, USA, in July 2008, where it was very well received.
