CONFERENCE ABSTRACTS

HOW DO I KNOW THEY’LL LIKE IT? How to plan, design and deliver schemes of work that meet the needs of gifted children

The identification policies are in place, staff are trained to value and nurture gifted children, enrichment and extension programmes are ready. You may have a cluster or withdrawal group planned, or set up and running already. But what do you teach gifted kids in a group? Where do the ideas come from? How do you cater for all interests and all styles of learning? How do you incorporate high order thinking skills in topics and how do you ensure children challenge themselves and take responsibility for their learning? How can you encourage moral and ethical development and provide opportunity for authenticity in learning?

The aim of this workshop is to answer these questions by taking you through the idea generation, collecting, planning and design process of a term or two’s gifted resources for a one day a week cluster group (or similar) from scratch, sharing with you practical ideas and strategies to add to your toolbox and to build on in the future.
