Integrating meta-cognition as a key element of a practical based extension and enrichment programme for the gifted.

Meta-what?!

We know about the importance of reflection and thinking about our thinking, but what exactly is meta-cognition? How do we make sense of it for gifted students, to share with them a better understanding and utilisation of a range of tools to think about their thinking? How do we target specific meta-cognitive needs? How do we know we are making a difference to their thinking?

With reference to what is known about how the gifted brain learns this workshop will share the structures, strategies and subtleties used in programmes for the gifted at the New Zealand Marine Studies Centre that specifically address these questions.
